99 Problems and my scalp is one

Ok guys, when I first started this blog I intended to be a bit more informative.

I want to share real stories but I also want to actually help people who have similar issues.

One of my main issues right now is my dry scalp.

GIRL! (OR GUY). My scalp be killing me. It’s so tender, dry and itchy. I have seen two doctors about it so far. A primary doctor who recommended a dermatologist and the dermatologist.

Unfortunately for me the dermatologist was a *whispers* white man. Although he did provide some good stuff for my face, he didn’t really help with my scalp. He pretty much told me I have a dry scalp. He gave me a shampoo and oil for my hair. My problem was with the shampoo, I was supposed to wash it everyday for two weeks.. And I’m a black girl, who had at the time, just gotten a fresh blow out on my natural hair. So YOU KNOW I wasn’t washing nothing.

That was about 3 years ago when I was pregnant with my son. Honestly, durning the pregnancy my scalp was just fine. I’m not sure if it was the prenatal pills or what but it was the first time in years that I had some scalp relief.

I have had this issue for too long. Growing up, my scalp was sensitive but never like this. It all started when I got some faux locs in my hair that were too tight. I should have taken them out immediately but I didn’t. Regrettably.. because my scalp has not been the same sense.

So fast forward to now, my scalp issues are the real reason I decided to cut my hair. My hair just wasn’t the same, it wasn’t growing in as thick as it used to and I was getting bald patches. I wanted to cut my hair easily get to the root of my problem.

I cut my hair summer 2019. I was about to start growing it back, hence the wigs to hide my twa, but my scalp is still not where I would like it to be.

I have been trying different products, trying to make sure I moisturize daily and all that but to no avail. After some quick research, I learned that ANXIETY could be the problem as well as too much sugar and carbs in my diet,

Today I did two things. I enrolled in healthcare and I bought some products that I hope 🤞🏾 brings me some relief until I see a doctor.

I made sure my new insurance was taken by the dermatologist I found. Who is a BLACK WOMAN. Hello!!!!

I can not WAIT to see a doctor who I can relate to. Her name is Dr.Alexis Stephens of Parkland Dermatologist. I actually found out about her on IG.

And my favorite skin care expert LA Beautologist follows her as well, which is a plus for me.

The two products I purchased are the Brioego Scalp Revival kit and some LivSo moisturizing lotion.

The great thing about these two products is that they were both created by black women.

Nancy Twine, founder of Briogeo
Shari Hicks-Graham founder of LivSo

I have had the scalp revival kit saved for months, maybe even a year. I have been hesitant about ordering because 1. It’s expensive (about $80) and 2. I thought it was for…. people with a different hair texture than mine. You know it’s hard for us coarse haired angels to find products that work.

But one day on IG, someone had listed some black owned companies to check out and I seen Brioego. And sure enough, it was black owned. (Of course I had to check because I was doubtful.)

So yeah. I’m excited to receive my products and to meet my new dermatologist. I will be booking an appointment ASAP and I will be updating you guys on my experience with both the products and the doctor.
